Jean won election to the U.S. House of Representatives in a special election in 2005 and served in Congress until 2013. She was a force in Congress, referred to as a “tough street fighter” by The New York Times and a “working congresswoman” by the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Jean has always been a champion for Ohioans, supporting widespread tax cuts, spearheading criminal justice reform, and voting passionately against Obamacare.

In addition to public service, Rep. Schmidt has served as President of the Cincinnati Right to Life and on the Board of the Clermont County Public Library. Recently, she has enjoyed teaching Government and the Constitution at Chatfield College. She has completed 172 marathons in all 50 states, including 24 Boston Marathons.

Jean resides in Miami Township. She has one grown daughter, Emilie, who is married to Nick, and they have two sons, Michael and Anthony.
